Bingham swimmers will compete against Copper Hills, Jordan, Herriman, Riverton, and West high schools in the Region 3 Championship Meet this Friday, Jan. 31, at 8:30 a.m. at the South Davis Recreation Center in Bountiful.
Going in to the region meet, nine Bingham swimmers have 6A state meet qualifying times—senior Jessica Gilchrist, freshman Aubrey Goates, freshman Grace Huber, senior Hallie Huber, sophomore Sophie Pecoraro, junior Aubrey Reidhead, junior Nate Rock, senior Brynna Thompson, and senior Sara Wimmer. The Miners also have four state-qualifying relay times, including the girls medley, 200 free, and 400 free, and the boys 400 free.
However, state qualifiers are bound to shift as swimmers register even faster times at region meets, and the Bingham coaches hope that means more Miners will qualify to compete at the state meet Feb. 14-15 at BYU.
“The team goals at region are to drop time and get more people qualified for state,” said Coach Rachael Kankamp. “My advice for the swimmers is that they just have fun. They have put in the work all season and this is one of the things they have been working for.”
