Miners News · Volleyball goes 2-1 on first day in California


The girls volleyball team is in California competing against some of the best teams in the country at the Dave Mohs varsity tournament.

In their first match they fell to a solid Temecula Valley team in 3 close sets (25-22, 26-28, 12-15). The Miners were fueled by their balanced defensive efforts. Senior outside hitter Naomi Glasker has 13 digs, while Senior Libero Sana Foliaki added 12 digs.

Match number 2 also went to 3 sets, but the Miners came away with the victory (22-25, 25-17, 15-10) against tournament host Edison High School. The Miners played behind their tough serving where Sophomore Jayda Tupea served for 14 points and 3 aces. Additionally, the Miners combined for an impressive 13 blocks in the 3 set match.

In their final match of the day, the Miners defeated Sage Hill in straight sets (26-24, 25-23) behind a balanced team effort.

They finished their round of pool play with a 2-1 record giving them a #2 seed heading into day two. They play a crossover match tomorrow morning at 8:30 am PST with bracket play following that.
