Coed Varsity Swimming · Bingham Personal Bests Abound at Judge Holiday Classic

Twenty-eight Bingham swimmers posted personal bests at the Judge Memorial Holiday Classic on Dec. 16. The Bingham women finished first, beating out West, East, Highland, Hillcrest, Maple Mountain, Juan Diego, Rowland Hall, Judge Memorial, Summit Academy and Morgan high schools for the top spot. The men came in fourth.

“Awesome meet!!” Coach Rachael Kankamp said. “I’m so proud of every single swimmer. They should all be extremely proud of themselves.”

Not only did senior Lindsey Young achieve personal bests in both the 500 free and the 200 free, but she also logged the fastest time in the state this year among 6A schools for the 500 free and the second fastest statewide in 6A for the 200 free.

Other swimmers who had especially notable time drops were sophomore Sara Wimmer with eight seconds off her 200 IM and four seconds off her 100 breast, senior Millie Reich with seven seconds off her 100 butterfly and three seconds off her 100 IM, junior Cayla Callus with five seconds off her 500 free and one second off her 200 free, sophomore Brendon Pina with eight seconds off his 200 free and two seconds off his 100 fly, freshman Nate Rock with six seconds off both his 200 IM and 100 fly, and freshman Zach Erickson and junior Jared Jorgensen each with seven seconds off their 100 free.

The Miners will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 19, in a Region 4 dual meet versus American Fork.
